Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau has marked his return to the Al Ahly starting XI with a goal in their 2-0 win over second-placed Ghazl El Mahalla.
The 28-year-old has slowly returned to full fitness at Al Ahly after missing the end of last season.
So far, he had only made three bench appearances in the 2022/23 campaign but he returned to the line-up on Wednesday against Ghazl El Mahalla.
It was first appearance in the line-up since a 2-0 win over El Masry on 10 August and his first start under new coach Marcel Koller.
And Tau only needed 17 minutes to find the back of the net, as he opened the scoring for his side.
The skilful winger slotted home from close range after Al Ahly played a free-kick quickly with Ali Maaloul finding Tau with an inch-perfect cross.
The win saw Al Ahly extend their lead at the top of the log, making it five victories out of five league games under Koller. Meanwhile, Mahalla picked up their first defeat of the new season.
Earlier on Wednesday, Pyramids picked up their third win of the campaign, with Fagrie Lakay playing the full 90 minutes. The three points saw Pyramids move into second place, four behind Al Ahly.
