South Africa international winger Gift Links was left disappointed over being suspended over an alleged spitting incident in the Danish Superliga.

Links, 24, has been a regular fixture in the Aarhus GF squad this season but was suspended for two games after allegedly spitting at an opponent in their 2-2 draw against Brondby last month.

He’s since returned to the squad in their most recent league clash against FC Copenhagen but the speedy winger had been left upset over the incident as he clarified his side of the story.

“I saw some pictures after the game obviously where it showed me spitting at a player, which is not true,” he told the club’s media department.

“I tried to spit away, you could see I even turned my head to the left side, if you watch from other angles obviously.

“I was really disappointed when I heard I was accused of spitting at a player because I would never do something like that, you get what I mean? Why would I spit at a player and then try to help him get up?

“I’m disappointed because the linesman was two steps in front of me, and if I spat at the player he would have reacted – and the bench was very close to see what occurred.”

The five-time capped Bafana Bafana winger admits it was down heartening to see how the incident was sensationalised within local media and hopes his name will be cleared upon review of what transpired from different angles of the incident during the game.

“It’s really disappointing to see my name all over the newspapers, I just want everyone to know I’m not a nasty player.

“You know I’m hurt, big time and seeing my name all over the media – I don’t want to see my name in the newspapers for bad stuff.

“I always try to do my best and hopefully the videos will be checked from different angles and my name will be cleared.”
