Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are preparing for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final against ASFAR of Morocco on Sunday and head coach Jerry Tshabalala told iDiski Times, that he is noticing signs that his side is destined to defend their continental title.
This is just like in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) where South Africa won the final against Morocco on home soil earlier this year.
Tshabalala looked back at some finals including in the men’s side where the odds have been in South African sides’ favour.
“I don’t know if odds are favouring us or odds are favouring Morocco,” Tshabalala told this publication.
“There’s a thing about the Champions League that I’ve realised, last year, when we went to the finals, we went to the finals against Hasaacas from Ghana, and you know what happened that previous weekend? Bafana Bafana lost 1-0 to Ghana.
“We had to do something for the county just to shut it down. Again, we find ourselves in the same situation where Banyana Banyana won against Morocco and we are in the final against a team from Morocco.”

Sundowns went through the group stages conceding one goal while scoring 11 and scored one in a tight semi-final against Simba Queens of Tanzania. The coach has lauded the defence for being solid and everyone in the club for contributing to the goals thus far.
Tshabalala, though, knows his side will need to work hard on the pitch in the final, is adamant certain things could be signs.
“So surely it looks like all signs are saying, hey ke ya lona Modimo o le file (it’s yours God is giving it to you). You know those kind is signs. I was saying to my players after the semi-final that the first time that our boys won the Champions League was in Egypt and the first time that we won it, we won it in Egypt,” he said.
“South African won its first WAFCON in Morocco and here we are in the final in Morocco. But can we do it? You never know, these things happen.
“You won’t believe that in the semi-finals, Sundowns was the first team placed in the changing room, ASFAR second, Bayelsa Queens third and Simba Queens fourth. I said to my players, I don’t know if I’m seeing things but this is how it should end.”
The coach also revealed that key striker Andisiwe Mgcoyi who hasn’t featured much in the tournament has recovered from injury adding that there is a huge chance that she might play in the final.
Meanwhile this week a movie about their trials and triumphs called Banyana Ba Style was released following their story from last year as they fought to become the very first Queens of the CAF Women’s Champions league.
The not-to-be-missed documentary film debuted on Friday night on SuperSport and will be repeated numerous times over the coming weeks on the Sports channel.
