Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has issued an ultimatum to Al Ahly forward Percy Tau after not selecting him for his latest squad.
Broos announced his final Bafana squad that will face Mozambique and Angola next week but Tau’s name was already not on the preliminary squad, despite the winger recently returning to the pitch for Al Ahly.
The 70-year-old explained that Tau needs more game-time to be selected for the squad because he lacks match fitness.
“I think a player like Percy Tau fits in every plan of every coach,” Broos said during the squad announcement on SABC.
“But when you see what happened to Percy in last year, he went from one injury to another and then when he recovered he played two, or three games and was again injured. So he didn’t play because of injuries against Ethiopia, he didn’t play against France.

“He was every time injured and now again at the end of the season, in June, he gets an injury again. He is just recovering now, he played 18 minutes and four minutes in the last three months. So I don’t think it’s a good plan to take Percy now, certainly not for him because he is not on 100%.
“He needs games, so why call him and we did it before because for me Percy has to be one of the most important players in our team. We did it before, but when you see his performances in September against Ghana and Zimbabwe, and again in November, this was not Percy. This was not Percy on 100% and he is not 100% now.
“Yes, he is fit, but he doesn’t have enough minutes. He has to play now.”
Broos also insisted that the South African winger should consider his future with the Egyptian giants should he not play more regularly again.
“If he doesn’t succeed to get his position in the team of Al Ahly then in January then he finds another team where he will play,” he added.
“We’ll be very happy to see that, with Al Ahly or another team so that at last we have a real 100% Percy Tau for the two games against Liberia.”
