CAF Confederations Cup participants Marumo Gallants have moved their upcoming CAF Confederation encounter to Rustenburg at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the North West province.
Gallants have explained why they won’t host their second preliminary round second leg at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Dan Malesela’s troops are set to host Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli on Wednesday, 9 November.
In the first leg in Benghazi on Saturday, the Limpopo side went 1-0 down to Tripoli.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have now confirmed that the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg will play host to the fixture.
The 2010 World Cup facility is an alternative venue for the club for the 2022/23 season.
MARUMO GALLANTS EXPLAIN DECISION
The club has since come out to explain that it was more economically viable to host the match in the North West than in Limpopo.
“Logistically it becomes economically fair for us to host the team in Royal Bafokeng instead of in Polokwane,” club media liaison officer Rufus Matsena told FARPost.
“According to the CAF rules when you have to host a team and they travel more than 200km from the Airport, then you must arrange the flights to the match venue.
“So logistically it’s more economically viable for us to host the match there. But the most important thing is that Royal Bafokeng is one of the registered venues for Marumo Gallants,” he said.
ON THE COMPETITIONS AMBITIONS
“We need to treat it as a cup final. The other thing is it gives the club a better millstone in terms of competitive football,” explained Matsena.
“Even exposure for the players, remember when they play on an international stage like this one, get exposed.
“So, it’s an important competition for us. We wish things to go our way and we go as further as possible. Even if it means we reach the final, so be it.”
Tickets for the match are available at computicket selling at R40 each.
