Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart admits he’s grateful to be representing the club after a memorable first Soweto Derby experience for the Bafana Bafana talent.
Maart, 27, has earned a recall to the 30-man Bafana squad named by Hugo Broos this week at the back of an impressive run of form with Amakhosi before the mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Having joined the club from Sekhukhune United in the off-season, it’s been an inconsistent run for the new-look Chiefs but they would have been buoyed by the exploits after the 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates.
“I am grateful to play for a big team and playing in front of a crowd like that is something wonderful and I really appreciate the support,” he told the club’s website.
Maart scored from well inside of his own half to beat Siyabonga Mpontshane who was off his line and he agrees, it’s likely to earn major recognition at the end of the campaign, with the likes of. FIFA already noticing the wonder strike.
“[The goal], it was something special. I saw the goalkeeper off his line and I just hit it directly to the poles and it went in,” he said. “Ja, it’s obvious. Like they say, It’s ‘Goal of the Season’.”
