Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says long queues at the Department of Home Affairs offices could become a thing of the past.
Motsoaledi says after discussions and funds from National Treasury, new staff is being employed.
“We are at 90% now, towards hiring them, this is separate from the 10 000 but we told them that we want to increase the staffing levels every year so that the lowest we can get is up to 65% and not 39%,” he said.
“Because now it becomes a combination of a shortage off staff, the little staff who are there working for long hours and then all of a sudden the systems are down, and when systems are down, people accumulate and even those who would have gone home, are still standing in the queue because the system is down.”
