Kaizer Chiefs captain Keagan Dolly has backed Khama Billiat to return to his best and admits the whole team are aiming to appease the club’s supporters.
Dolly, 29, started the season with an indifferent run of form and was even dropped to the bench by head coach Arthur Zwane who cited fatigue as the contributing factor to his decision.
But he’s come back with three goals and an assist in the last five games. But his former Mamelodi Sundowns attacking partner has struggled for form and fitness this season which has caused some questions about his role in the team.
“I think with Khama he’s been long in the game, he’s experienced, he’s had times like this where he’s struggled to score goals for the club and I think he came out on top all the time,” Dolly said ahead of the Soweto derby.
“I think we all know Khama Billiat is a quality player, we all know his strengths, it will just take one game and one goal to change this, for myself as well, I started the season slowly. But once I started scoring goals, my confidence came back and I think one goal will help Khama a lot.”
The Amakhosi captain admits they’ve not been up to the required standards this season within the campaign dubbed as the fresh revival from the club’s hierarchy but the Bafana Bafana winger feels a lot is being done behind the scenes in order to get the required results to bring back smiles amongst the fan base and the squad itself.
“The past, the things have not gone the way we wanted it to go but we not only looking to make the supporters happy, but we’re also looking to make ourselves happy, we want to make the Chairman happy, we want to make the club happy and it starts with us as players,” he continued.
“I think going into this game, we know what we want to do, each and every game is important and we want to win it, we know some of the games we conceded from silly mistakes which we are to blame [for] as a team and we didn’t take chances – but for us, it’s to go out there and try and win each game we play.”
