Dolly Stunner Spares Chiefs Blushes Against Galaxy

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Bernard Parker netted his first goal for TS Galaxy as they drew 2-2 with Amakhosi in their DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs avoided back-to-back ‘home’ defeats thanks to a late free-kick by Keagan Dolly after their 2-1 loss to Chippa United this past weekend.

Ashley du Preez had opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute with his deft finish after being played in on goal by George Matlou – which appeared to have sparked major confidence for the squad.

Galaxy held plenty of possession but little substance for the opening half-hour as they probed for an equaliser, but Chiefs, on the counter, looked more likely to double their advantage.

But the introduction of Parker for Lefa Hlongwane turned the game on its head. The veteran forward netted his first goal for the club after deflecting the ball past Bruce Bvuma from a corner, that just after the Chiefs keeper made two stunning saves to keep them in the lead.

And four minutes before the break he played a role by selling a dummy before Djakaridja Junior Traoré headed the Rockets in a lead, much to the delight of the technical team and Chairman Tim Sukazi in the dugout.

The home supporters were in shock and made their displeasure known as the players walked down the tunnel at the break, and that sparked real intensity from the Soweto giants.

But for all their attacking intent and endeavour, their lack of composure in the final third, coupled with some excellent work from the Galaxy defence, frustrated the home side and their passionate support base.

Frustration clearly started to boil over in the cold and wet conditions of the Calabash at around 75 minutes, with the Chiefs players getting into arguments with the away side who were getting under their skin.

It was Dolly who netted the equaliser in the 81st minute with another beautiful goal following a free-kick to salvage a points for the home side.

Melusi Buthelezi denied Chiefs a late winner, parrying superbly against Yusuf Maart.
