After sitting on the bench for Marumo Gallants’ CAF Confederation Cup victory over Elgeco Plus from Madagascar, assistant coach Raymond Mdaka has said SAFA needs to help coaches get on CAF A and B courses so head coaches aren’t sitting in the stands.
Gallants’ head coach Dan Malesela was in the situation for this tie, as were Cape Town City’s Eric Tinkler, and Khabo Zondo at Royal AM, with the country having not hosted A or B Licence courses in five years.
Gallants won 1-0 on Saturday to win 4-1 over the two legs, and Lethabo Kganyago was speaking to Mdaka after the second leg game, and asked the assistant about the importance of the courses that are reportedly set to return in November and December.
“CAF is saying this is a prerequisite,” Mdaka told Kganyago.
“I think SAFA should be doing a lot in terms, because there are a lot of coaches, hey?
“You see my coach sitting there, my coach is a qualified coach, he has done the South African licenses, your Level One or Level Two all those courses. He has all these courses but the thing is just for them to have (these) courses.
“There are a lot of coaches, a lot of them, experienced highly qualified coaches that only need that paper. So it’s up to SAFA to look at it and see how best can they help the teams and the the coaches in the country.”
