State to Add Additional Charges Against Suliman Carrim Over Alleged Employment of Undocumented Foreign Nationals
The State is expected to add further charges against North West businessman Suliman Carrim when he appears in the Musina Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo today, Friday morning.
The additional charges relate to allegations that Carrim unlawfully employed foreign nationals whose immigration status does not permit them to work in South Africa. The allegations involve his two employees, Musa Phiri and Zakes Ibrahim, who are also accused in the existing vehicle theft and fraud case.
Phiri and Ibrahim were arrested at the Beitbridge Border Post in July while allegedly transporting two vehicles destined for Malawi. The matter was postponed to today, Friday to allow the pair to formally join Carrim in the dock as co-accused.
The existing case involves allegations that the three attempted to steal the vehicles using fraudulent documentation. The defence has indicated that Phiri intends to enter into a plea agreement with the State.
Carrim, who was recently granted R100,000 bail in a separate Pretoria case relating to his alleged failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission, remains in custody on the Musina charges.
