Auditors quit Central Gauteng Athletics weeks before AGM

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) has lost its auditors. The clubs were only told six weeks later.

Numeriq Incorporated resigned as the federation’s auditors on 17 September 2026.

But CGA only informed its affiliated clubs in a memo dated 29 October 2026, signed by general manager Mandla Radebe.

The firm has also said it will not send anyone to CGA’s Annual General Meeting or the Special General Meeting set for 7 November 2026.

The memo does not say why Numeriq resigned.

“In the resignation letter, the firm confirmed that the resignation would take effect from the date of signing its audit report on the annual financial statements for the financial year ended 31 December 2025. The firm further additionally advised that no representative would attend the Annual General Meeting and/or the subsequent Special General Meeting scheduled for the 7th November 2026,” the memo reads.

The auditors also drew a line between who answers for what.

“We were additionally advised that queries relating to its audit opinion should be directed to it by the Board as the body charged with governance, while queries concerning accounting records and the allocation of transactions should be directed to management,” Radebe wrote.

This means clubs will not be able to put questions to the auditors directly at the meetings.

Numeriq also reminded CGA that it still has to be paid.

“Numeriq Incorporated also confirmed that outstanding fees for its services remain payable in terms of its engagement letter and assured us that it would cooperate with incoming auditors, subject to the necessary authorization from CGA and compliance with its professional and statutory obligations,” the memo states.

The memo does not say whether the audit report for 2025 has been signed, or what audit opinion was given.

The board says it is dealing with it.

“The Board has considered the implications of the resignation and will ensure necessary steps are taken regarding the appointment of new auditors and the continuity of the organisation’s audit and financial reporting processes,” Radebe wrote.

“CGA considers it important that affiliated clubs are formally informed in the interest of transparency and good governance. Further communication will be provided as appropriate.”

CGA’s current board was elected in January this year.

That election followed a turbulent period. In September 2025, Athletics South Africa (ASA) placed CGA under administration and appointed Trevor Fredericks as administrator, a move clubs said was made without consulting them.

Before that, ASA suspended five CGA members who had demanded accountability over ASA president James Moloi’s use of federation credit cards at shebeens.

CGA is the country’s second-largest athletics region.

Questions have been sent to CGA and Numeriq Incorporated.
