Durban City FC will be looking to continue their impressive rise in South African football when they host Stellenbosch FC in a Carling Knockout last-16 encounter at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday, October 28.
The match kicks off at 7pm with both teams determined to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the lucrative competition which will see the winning team take home the cool R6.85 million home.
Durban City head into the encounter buoyed by their historic qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages after defeating Mauritius side AS Port Louis 2000 by a convincing 6-1 aggregate score in the second preliminary round.
The Citizens will now turn their attention to domestic cup football as they seek to build on their achievements since returning to the Betway Premiership.
After winning the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship to secure promotion, Durban City impressed in the top flight before lifting the Nedbank Cup last season, earning a ticket to continental competition.
However, Stellenbosch stand in their way as they pursue another cup triumph.
The Cape Winelands outfit will be equally determined to progress, having won the Carling Knockout in 2023 and reached the quarter-finals in the subsequent two editions.
Durban City will also be eager to break their winless run against Stellenbosch, with their previous three meetings ending in draws.
With a quarter-final place at stake, the hosts will hope their recent continental success provides the momentum needed to overcome a determined Stellenbosch side.
The winner will advance to the last eight, keeping alive their hopes of lifting the Carling Knockout trophy.
