The Carling Knockout last-16 round has delivered an entertaining goal feast, with 23 goals scored in seven matches as South Africa’s top-flight clubs battle for places in the quarterfinals.

Golden Arrows emerged as the biggest winners after thrashing Chippa United 4-0, while Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates followed with convincing 3-0 victories over TS Galaxy and Milford FC respectively.

Sekhukhune United also enjoyed a productive outing in front of goal, beating Richards Bay 3-1 to strengthen their hopes of progressing in the competition.

The results highlighted the attacking quality on display, with several teams making emphatic statements in their quest to lift the Carling Knockout trophy.

Golden Arrows set the pace with their four-goal demolition of Chippa United at the King Zwelithini Stadium, producing one of the most impressive performances of the round.

Chiefs, meanwhile, delivered a commanding performance against TS Galaxy at the FNB Stadium, with Wandile Duba stealing the show by scoring a hat-trick in the 48th, 66th and 81st minutes.

The young forward’s clinical finishing ensured that Amakhosi secured a comfortable 3-0 victory and booked their place in the quarterfinals.

At the Orlando Stadium, Pirates were equally impressive as they dispatched Milford FC 3-0.

Tshepang Moremi scored twice, finding the net in the 34th and 47th minutes after Makobodi had opened the scoring in the 14th minute.

Sekhukhune United also advanced after overcoming Richards Bay 3-1 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, with Bradley Grobler among the players who made their mark during the encounter.

Mamelodi Sundowns needed just one goal to overcome Marumo Gallants, with Siyanda Ndlovu finding the net in a hard-fought 1-0 victory that secured the defending champions’ progress.

Siwelele FC also booked their place in the quarterfinals after edging Polokwane City 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

AmaZulu FC recorded a 1-0 victory over Kruger United in another last-16 encounter.

R100 000 rewards for Man of the Match winners

The tournament has also provided an additional financial incentive for outstanding individual performances, with seven players already receiving R100 000 each after being named Man of the Match in their respective games.

Among these standout performers were Chiefs’ Duba, whose hat-trick against TS Galaxy underlined his match-winning ability, and Pirates’ Moremi, who scored twice in the victory over Milford FC.

Sekhukhune United’s Bradley Grobler, Siyanda Ndlovu of Sundowns, and Thandolwethu Ngwenya were also among the players recognised for their contributions.

The individual awards have added another layer of excitement to the competition, rewarding players who have made decisive contributions to their teams’ performances.

Durban City and Stellenbosch to complete the round

The final match of the last-16 round will take place tonight, Wednesday, October 28, when Durban City host Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium.

Both teams will be eager to secure the remaining quarterfinal spot and complete the line-up for the next stage of the competition.

With convincing victories for Golden Arrows, Chiefs, Pirates and Sekhukhune United, the quarterfinals promise more exciting encounters as the remaining contenders continue their pursuit of the Carling Knockout crown.
