Pitso Mosimane explains Al Ahli Saudi decision

Al-Ahli Saudi new coach Pitso Mosimane has explained his decision to join the Saudi Arabia outfit. Mosimane has been jobless after parting ways with Egyptian giants Al Ahly a few months back.

This is seemingly a step back for Mosimane, and his technical team, as the club was relegated from the Saudi topflight last season.

He stated that his main objective at the club will be to regain promotion to the Saudi Pro league as the team is recognised as a big club in the Middle East

“We decided it’s always better to take a project that is interesting and a project that will help us have an impact. We have a mandate for two years to turn everything around. We’ve been tasked to take this dream club back to the pro league,” Mosimane told the media.

“We need to be aware that Al Ahli is amongst the top four teams in the Kingdom of Saudi, but not at the moment because of where it is positioned. It’s a big task, it’s a big challenge, but we are ready for the challenge, and we’re excited to go to Saudi Arabia.

“We looking forward to bringing the team back, I think we have the experience and a track record to be able to achieve the best results and awake the sleeping giant. Changing the game for good is my personal motto.”

Mosimane further revealed that he had many offers abroad, including national teams. However, he turned down the offers as he was looking for a challenging job.

“We received numerous offers and national teams around the world. However, the mandate that we gave MT Sports as a team, we decided it’s always better to take on a challenging project.

“We looked at the league. We looked at the expectations. We felt this one is a big club. It’s a risk that we have to take this team to the premier league,” Mosimane added.

In the 2022/23 season, Al Ahli are seventh on the log after five matches with eight points. They’ve won two, drew two and suffered one defeat.
