Two men accused of handling a smartwatch belonging to murdered runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo have been granted bail, while a third remains in custody.

Kenneth Chibuzor, Stephen Sekhukhune and Danial Moat appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 October 2026.

According to court reporting by Sowetan and Eyewitness News, the three face charges related to the alleged theft, possession and sale of Moselakgomo’s Garmin smartwatch.

None has been charged with her murder.

Two Accused Granted R10,000 Bail

Sekhukhune and Moat were each granted R10,000 bail after the State did not oppose their release.

The court ordered both men to surrender their passports and report to Kempton Park police station twice weekly.

Chibuzor remains in custody after his bail application was postponed to 19 October.

According to Sowetan, prosecutors requested additional time to verify his immigration status following conflicting documentation.

Smartwatch Allegedly Changed Hands

Court proceedings revealed that Moselakgomo’s smartwatch allegedly changed hands several times shortly after she disappeared.

Prosecutors allege that Chibuzor purchased the watch for R900 before selling it to Sekhukhune.

Sekhukhune allegedly reset the device and linked it to his Gmail account.

Moat subsequently allegedly purchased the watch for R4,000 before advertising it on Facebook Marketplace.

The accused face charges including theft and money laundering. Chibuzor also faces allegations relating to the Second-Hand Goods Act.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Police Continue Murder Investigation

Moselakgomo, 38, disappeared on 9 September after leaving her Kempton Park home for a run.

Her body was discovered on 12 September. SAPS confirmed that her family formally identified her remains at Germiston Mortuary on 14 September.

In an official statement issued that day, Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane pledged to pursue those responsible.

Police subsequently established a specialised multidisciplinary team to investigate the killings of women in Ekurhuleni.

Government confirmed on 20 September that Moselakgomo was among nine women whose bodies had been discovered in the municipality since July.

Although investigators have recovered information relating to her smartwatch, no suspect has been charged with her murder.

The police investigation remains ongoing.
