12 Players Who Could Still Move After Deadline

Published

Despite the transfer window having closed on Thursday, several high-profile players could still be signed by DStv Premiership clubs.

The domestic transfer window slammed shut at midnight on 22 September and will only open again for the second transfer period in January.

However, Premier Soccer League rules do allow for players to move to clubs, on condition they have been a free agent before the deadline.

Rule 36.6 of the NSL handbook clarifies which players can still move after the window has closed, saying “only the following categories of Players may be registered by a Member Club outside of the registration periods stated above:–

31.6.1.  A Player who was not under contract with any club at the time that the previous registration period closed;

31.6.2.  An amateur Player who has a clearance certificate; or

31.6.3.  A Player who has been declared a free agent.

It means that players such as Happy Jelle or Daniel Akpeyi can still be registered, should any club be willing to. The duo were released by Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs respectively, and are understood to still be on hunt for new clubs.

Another player, who is said to be close to a new destination after his much-document contract saga with Royal AM is Ndumiso Mabena. The 35-year-old has been linked with several clubs but is understood to be close to a decision on his future after agreeing to a four-month payout with Royal AM, which resulted in him receiving his release.
