Kaizer Chiefs are heading to Bloemfontein this weekend for the Macufe Cup and head coach Arthur Zwane has stated it could be crucial to kickstart their 2022/23 season.

Amakhosi will face off against Royal AM on Saturday afternoon and have not taken off for the FIFA International break after their 2-1 comeback win over SuperSport United last week.

It was a morale-boosting victory for Zwane and his troops after a stop-start season thus far, which they will now be aiming to find consistency and further match sharpness when they face the KZN outfit.

“We needed this game because we wanted to improve on certain aspects of our game, we wanted to make sure we get the chemistry right and that’s why we wanted to play this game,” Zwane told the media.

The likes of Austin Dube, Happy Mashiane, Thabo Mokoena, Sabelo Radebe, Keletso Sifama, Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Phathutshedzo Nange are expected to feature in the encounter while some of the first-team players will also get a run out in a bid to boost their confidence.

“We will also give other players the opportunity, those who aren’t playing regularly at the moment because we want to keep everyone on the same level of fitness,” Zwane explained.

“So that the privilege of having this type of games, it might be like practice matches but they are still games that are going to be watched on tv and people coming to the stadium.

“For the players, it will still help them at their utmost best and for us as well it’s to get the combinations right because our next game is against AmaZulu, in the cup game, so that will help us as well going forward.”

Amakhosi return to action against Usuthu in the first leg on the MTN8 semi-final on Sunday the 2nd of Octover at FNB Stadium.
