Springbok Cheslin Kolbe has shared an update on his jaw, via an Instagram post on Tuesday 6 October, one month after the injury took place.
CHESLIN KOLBE SHARES UPDATE ON JAW INJURY
The father of three and Springbok wing injured his jaw on 5 September, during the ninth minute of a Test match against New Zealand at FNB Stadium in Soweto. Kolbe took a heavy knock in a defensive tackle inside the 22-meter area during the early stages of the game.
He was forced off the field after just nine minutes in to the match. Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed the broken jaw shortly after the final whistle. At the time, Cheslin’s wife, Layla Kolbe flew in to Johannesburg to be by his side.
Cheslin has now shared an update on his injury, on month later revealing that he can now chew a steak. Take a look…
“For all those asking and checking in. Half way there before I can finally chew a steak. But thank you to everyone for their well wishes! Cannot wait to be back on the field again! 1 month in. God is in control 🙏,” he wrote on Instagram.
ALL THE INJURIES THE SPRINGBOK SUFFERED OVER THE YEARS
Aside from the injured jaw, Cheslin has also suffered other injuries, including:
- Ankle and Hamstring niggles (August 2026). This was picked up during the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against New Zealand, initially diagnosed as more than just cramps.
- Foot Injury (March 2023). Cheslin suffered a foot injury while playing for Toulon in the French Top 14 during a try-scoring movement, causing him to leave the pitch in tears.
- Knee and Hamstring issues. He suffered various minor interruptions during international and club commitments in Europe and South Africa.
- Broken Ribs. Earlier in his career, he admitted to sustaining two broken ribs.
- Thumb and Ankle strains. He also suffered past minor fractures and sprains.
