Ferroviario Beiracoach Wedson Nyirenda says their back-to-back wins over AS Sante Abeche of Chad in the CAF Confederation Cup was a test of endurance.
The Mozambique side on Sunday beat Abeche 1-0 at home in Maputo to seal their passage to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Ferroviario Beira won the first leg played away in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on September 10, where they rallied from one down to win 2-1.
Nyirenda returned for a second stint at Ferroviario Beira this year after leaving them in 2015 to take up the Chipolopolo job.
WHAT THE EX-BAROKA COACH SAID
“It has been a journey. A rough one at that,” Nyirenda told FARPost.
“We are a team in a building process with very good and exciting young players and have seen tremendous progress in the past seven months together.
“We travelled to Cameroon last week to meet AS Sante Abeche of Chad and managed an away victory though it was very tough.
“The boys stood firm and collected a 2-1 victory. Coming back home with that lead, we knew AS Sante would throw all the mud at us.
“So we managed the game and again got a much-needed goal in the second half, which gave us some assurance, and the 1-0 victory at home sealed the qualification to the next round for us.”
Diables Noir was on a preliminary round bye and visit Ferroviario Beira in the first leg on October 7.
The two sides will meet in the final leg in Brazzaville on October 14.
“Now we face a more formidable side in Diables Noir of Brazzaville. We are starting at home, and we must make it a point that we try and utilise all our chances here if we are to make our job easy,” Nyirenda said.
“It looks a tough test, but it is attainable.”
