‘No need to panic’, says Kopo after Callies’ second successive defeat

Pretoria Callies head coach Kwanele Kopo has claimed that he and his team do not need to “panic” after going three games without a win this season.

This comes after Callies suffered a 3-1 defeat at the expense of Baroka FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship clash at the Global Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

This was their second successive defeat, having lost 1-0 to Hungry Lions last week.

The side is currently placed 15th on the table with one point from three outings.

“I think we dominated most of the game. If you look at the goals we conceded, I think two of them were blatant mistakes from goalkeeping and defence. We now take those mistakes and learn from them,” he told FARPost in a post-match interview.

However, Kwanele believes that his team had a good game, but it was just not their day.

“You can see that we have got a young goalkeeper. He did well in our last game and felt we should go with him today. I hope he will learn from his mistakes and become one of the best.

“At this moment everyone is feeling the pressure. Baroka felt the pressure coming into this game as they had not won a game. So, we also felt the pressure coming here because we haven’t won a game. Therefore, everyone is under that pressure at this point and time.”

The coach maintains that it is too early to be worried about their position as the gap is not that deep thus far and will work hard to turn their fortunes around.

“No one is running with the league so far. For example, JDR were number 14, and yesterday they won 6-0 and jumped to fourth place. So the gap is not that much,” he added.

“It is not the time to start panicking, but we just have to start fixing our problems moving forward.”
