BREAKING NEWS: Chippa show Klate the exit door

Chippa United have sacked head coach Daine Klate after a poor start to the new season.

Klate’s seventh and final game in charge of the Chilli Boys was Wednesday’s 1-0 DStv Premiership defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at home. Sources close to this publication confirmed that the 37-year-old mentor was informed of the decision Thursday morning.

In those seven games in charge, the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder only managed to win one game, drew two and lost four in the process.

Klate took over the coaching reigns that was held by Kurt Lentjies, who was placed on “special leave” by the club back in July 2022.

Before joining the first team as the head coach, Klate served as Chippa’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) coach for the past two seasons.

After losing 3-1 to Royal AM a month ago, he revealed that there are many reasons his side are struggling to get desired results. He blamed his misfiring strikers, lack of poor communication at the back and how his troops apply themselves in the field of play.

“First half, I think we were poor. I don’t think we applied ourselves properly. I think Royal AM was the better team on the day. We conceded two goals because we had a lack of communication,” Klate told the media after the Royal AM game.

“The application, the desire and the intensity we played in the first half were nowhere near good enough, and that hurt us a lot.”

Meanwhile, Morgan Mmamila who just returned to the Eastern Cape club following his resignation at the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit All Stars will take over as the club’s interim coach until further notice.

Mmamila was on the touchline with Klate when Chippa lost to Bafana Ba Style, courtesy of Peter Shalulile’s late strike.
