South African singer-songwriter Moneoa is behind some of the most beautiful and impactful hits that form part of an iconic musical era in the country. The R&B artist, who has populated the radio and SA music charts, took a break from fame and is now making a musical return.

Moneoa on the reasons for her hiatus

According to News24, Moneoa took an unplanned step back from public life due to unspecified circumstances. Within that absence, she found something much more important: she gained “perspective.”

During her time away from the limelight, she received a certain level of fulfilment, News24 reports. She was drawn to life’s “little treasures,” such as family, friendship, meaningful relationships, and God. In her time away from public life, she was able to lead what seemed to be a rewarding life.

Her response to stepping back into the limelight

According to News24, Moneoa is bewildered by how much impact she has had on South African culture. She is consistently left speechless by the parents who tell her that they have named their children after her.

Moneoa is walking back into a transformed music industry. Times have changed drastically since she was an artist who was releasing music, with streaming, social media platforms, and, of course, a whole different generation of listeners determining the success of an artist’s project.

However, Moneoa is not threatened; if anything, she is excited. She is very enthusiastic about this new generation of women, impressed by their carefree and bold attitudes.

Moneoa doesn’t feel that she would call this a “comeback” as it feels too small a description. However, what she describes sounds much like a blossoming. She says that she is a seed in a huge garden and that she understands she holds an imperative role, yet that she is still part of something much bigger. She enters this new era with a profound sense of grace and surrender.
