Pretoria Callies have strengthened their squad ahead of this weekend’s Motsepe Foundation Championship kick off, signing junior international Oswin Appollis.
The highly-rated midfielder has been in the football wilderness for the past few months since parting ways with SuperSport United.
Appollis was a youth academy star at Ajax Cape Town, but left the club before being promoted to the first team. He resurfaced at SuperSport and was soon a star in the Diski Challenge team, scoring regularly.
While he was often a part of the first team squad, Appollis made just five appearances for the senior side, all being from the bench.
In the 2020/2021 campaign, he spent half a season on loan at AmaTuks, scoring twice in 12 appearances.
Now the 21-year-old will have a chance to resurrect a promising career, working with Kwanele Kopo, a coach who knows the player well from their time at SuperSport together.
It is believed that Appollis has signed a two-year deal with Callies.
Once a regular in the national U20 setup, if he finds his feet at Callies, Appollis could be a key player for the U23 team who are set to begin their qualifying campaign for the CAF U23 Championship and the Olympic Games.
