Ex-Orlando Pirates defender to lead African All Stars

Gauteng ABC Motsepe League outfit African All Stars have enlisted the services of former Orlando Pirates defender Lizo Mjempu as the club’s new head coach for the upcoming.

Mjempu began his professional career in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) playing for Mpumalanga Black Aces, followed by Jomo Cosmos, Lusitano FC, Ajax Cape Town, and Orlando Pirates before signing with Moroka Swallows back in 2012. He also had a stint with Alexandra United.

He managed to lift the MTN8 trophy and PSL title in the 2011/12 campaign with Orlando Pirates.

The Queenstown-born mentor comes in with extensive experience in coaching, having helped Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe side Sabie Bayern to the national playoffs last campaign.

African All Stars

The new man in charge will be gunning to achieve the same goal with All Stars when the 2022/23 season comes to an end.

All Stars failed to qualify for the ABC League national playoffs following their 2-1 defeat on aggregate against MM Platinum (La Masia) in the provincial playoffs last season. La Masia went on to win the national playoffs and cruised their way into the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

To put a cherry on top, the side was also part of the 2022 Nedbank Cup edition, where they lost 3-1 to Venda Football Academy (VFA) in the Round of 32.

The club has produced a couple of players who have managed to secure deals in the Dstv Premiership and the South African second-tier.
