AmaZulu have made a decision on veteran defender Mzwanele Mahashe, who was on trials at the club.

The Durban side has decided against signing Mahashe after the defender failed to impress during his trial with the club.

As reported by FARPost, the former Royal AM defender has been training with Usuthu for some time now with the hope of earning himself a contract with Brandon Truter’s team.

However, the latest news is that Truter and his technical team were not impressed by the defender and decided against signing him.

A FARPost source close to the club confirmed to this publication that Mahashe will not be signing with AmaZulu.

“A decision was taken that the club won’t be signing him,” the source said.

Mahashe last played a competitive match in December last year when he played for Royal AM.

The East London-born centre-back was released by TS Galaxy at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old joined The Rockets from Royal AM during the January transfer window.
The former Baroka and Bloemfontein Celtic defender didn’t play any matches after signing for the club.

Indications are that Marumo Gallants are looking at the possibility of bringing the player on board.

Truter has added the experienced and versatile Ramahlwe Mphahlele to his roaster at the KZN outfit.
Mphahlele demonstrated his experience when he came on to shore things up in the second half of their MTN8 quarterfinal tie against Cape Town City on Saturday.

They emerged 2-1 victors after extra time and will now play in the semi-final of the tournament.

The former Swallows coach also has Veluyeke Zulu, who joined from Chippa, in that centre-back position.

They have started off the season well, winning three of their opening five games and drawing once. The other game ended in a loss to Golden Arrows in the KZN derby last week.
