Could Pedersen make long-awaited Pirates debut against AmaZulu?
Wednesday’s Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu FC could be a perfect opportunity for Orlando Pirates to hand Sebastian Pedersen his debut. However, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is unlikely to rush the Norwegian striker into action.
The match will be significant as Betway Premiership football returns to the Kings Park Stadium after more than five years. AmaZulu will also be determined to respond after their disappointing MTN8 exit. Pirates, meanwhile, are preparing for another demanding league fixture as they continue their title defence.
Pedersen’s possible debut comes at an important time for the Buccaneers. Evidence Makgopa has been ruled out for around two months with a knee injury. That leaves Yanela Mbuthuma and Boitumelo Radiopane as the club’s recognised senior striking options.
Pedersen has already taken part in Pirates’ preparations ahead of the trip to Durban. The 27-year-old was seen in the club’s “Inside Training MD-2” session shared on social media. His involvement suggests he is getting closer to making his competitive debut.
However, Ouaddou has previously indicated that he will not rush Pedersen into the starting lineup. The striker joined Pirates from Norwegian club Sogndal Fotball on a two-year contract. The deal also includes an option for Pirates to extend his stay by another season.
