Frustrated pupils and parents from Kwadedangendlale Secondary School in Soweto protested on Friday morning.

They say the school building has been dilapidated since 2015 and that learning conditions are inhumane.

Children are staying home for weeks on end.

Parents want their children to be placed in other schools temporarily so they can learn.

The School Governing Body’s Princess Nqakwana said: “We want our kids moved to other schools so they can continue building here. We’re sick and tired of having kids at home.

“We want them to fix this asap. October, exams start. What will they write because they learned nothing.”

Thandi Thomo, another parent on the SGB said: “We’ve met with the Education Department. Problem is they haven’t given us feedback. They’re still quiet and we’re worried what will happen that’s why we’ve asked the media to come and intervene. To see the school environment which is very bad.

“The director also asked for kids to not come to this school because of situation. We’re very worried. Is it because we’re in Soweto and are poor that our kids should stay at home and not go to school? We need the department to intervene.”
