Marumo Gallants head coach Romain Folz cut a frustrated figure after another impressive display co-coincided in a fifth game without a win to start off his DStv Premiership career,
Gallants came into the affair against Pirates at Orlando Stadium with four draws in their opening four games despite performing well with an enterprising style of play.
But Paseka Mako’s third-minute goal proved the difference as they held out for a hard-fought win amidst Gallants running the show during stages of the game in Soweto.
“We can only blame ourselves for the outcome of the game today, conceding a goal after three minutes you put yourself in a difficult position from the get-go,” Folz said in the pre-match press conference.
“I think yes as many people after the game told me yes we were the better team today, I strongly believe that, but it’s not enough. As I told the boys just now, I’m tired of being the team that plays well, everyone says they can see what we’re doing.”
Folz, 31, who is set to lead Bahlabane Ba Ntwa into the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup went on to state that they need to buck up their ideas and insisted their first win will come in their next league encounter when they face an in-form Swallows on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba stadium.
“We have a good shape, we play good football, but at the end of the day we don’t get the maximum points, so I think it’s time that we all stand up and wake up, understanding that it needs to change.
“Yes we know we can play, yes we know we can come to Pirates on their field and outplay them, we know we can do that. At the end of the day, it’s not enough.
“We need to match that with the desire and ambition of being much much more impactful going forward into having results. I know we have that in us, we can do it, it needs to happen now. Otherwise, it will be a problem and it will happen to start the next game.”
