The Zulu tribe was rocked when King Goodwill Zwelithini was pronounced dead because of Covid-related illnesses in March 2021. The family members had a long battle about who would succeed him for the longest time, but the new King was finally appointed. On 20 August 2022, King Misuzulu had his coronation ceremony as the new King of the Great Zulu nation, causing him to trend.
Journey to King Misuzulu’s coronation
Born Misuzulu Sinqobile Hlomesakhishalangu kaZwelithini, King Misuzulu is the third and oldest surviving son of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini. Hw is also the first son of Queen Mantfombi Dlamini, who was named King Goodwill’s great wife. Traditionally after his father died, he would have become the automatic next ruler as the oldest son. However, the Zulu nation is now run by a constitution, and a king has to be appointed son.
After his father’s death, his will read that Queen Mantfombi was to name the successor to the throne. However, seven weeks after the King’s death, the Queen died because of an unspecified illness. At the reading of her will, it was revealed that she had named Misuzulu Zulu the next King of the Zulu nation, which was met by protest, and Misuzulu had to be whisked away by the police force and guards from Eswatini.
The coronation of this King started on 19 August till the early hours of the next day, and many people from the Zulu tribe have been celebrating. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries and some celebrities from Mzansi’s entertainment industry.
Early life and education
King Misuzulu was born on 23 September 1974 and is currently 47 years of age. For his primary education, he attended a school in his mother’s country, Eswatini and later moved to South Africa. For his high school, he matriculated from St Charles College, Pietermaritzburg. The King has a degree in International Studies from a University in Jacksonville in Florida.
King Misuzulu Zulu’s Wives and Children
In 2021 before his mother’s funeral, he married his partner Ntokozo Mayisela whom he met at his sister’s wedding in 2009. the two have two children from their marriage. He also has a second wife from Eswatini named Nozizwe Mulela, with whom he has no children yet. His third wife is Princess Wezizwe Sigcau, from the amaMpondo royalty.
