What Feutmba thinks about Zungu’s Sundowns return

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba is confident that Bongani Zungu, who has since returned to the club after stints in Europe, will add value to the squad.

The former Cameroon international, who was Sundowns’ talisman between 1996 and 1999, lauded the club for bringing back Zungu as they look to challenge for the CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians unveiled Zungu before their DStv Premiership emphatic win against Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

The 29-year-old midfielder had been without a club since he parted away with Amiens SC from France in July.

The Bafana Bafana ace returns as a more experienced player after stints in Portugal and Scotland, where he turned out for Rangers under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

According to Feutmba, any team with a plan to dominate their league and the continent needs to have a solid and big squad.

“I believe that the technical team know that he can add value at Sundowns as they want to challenge for everything. They need a good and big squad. I believe they’ve done an assessment on him, and he knows the team’s culture,” Feutmba tells FARPost.

“I know him personally and believe he is a good signing. The quality is there, and it can’t be doubted. I’m thrilled that he is back.”

While there are concerns about his off-field behaviour and social media posts, Feutmba insists Ben10’s views should not be a problem.

He is convinced his controversial social media views stem from a place of hunger to do well. In fact, the 1998 league title winner believes that Zungu is the kind of character Sandawana needs on their team.

“We can’t judge him on his views as a player and for him to challenge things says a lot about him and his character, so I don’t think that attitude will affect Sundowns. Instead, it will help the club.”
