Nassir Reacts To First Downs Goal

New Mamelodi Sundowns striker Abubeker Nassir has expressed his happiness after scoring his first goal for Masandawana against Kaizer Chiefs on the weekend.

Nassir, 22, was bought by Sundowns in January already but was initially loaned back to Ethiopian Coffee. He was a clear standout player in the Betking Ethiopia Premier League, scoring 29 goals in 21 games and he could have scooped another Golden Boot had he not been recalled by Sundowns for pre-season before the last campaign finished in his homeland.

He was finally unveiled by Downs last week and immediately made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy, where he showed first glimpses. On Saturday, Nassir came off the bench and score a superb solo goal against Chiefs and later explained it meant a lot to him to score in such a big game.

“I was good, it was a tough game. Since it was my first game abroad I was happy to score,” he told Ethio FM in his home country, as quoted by EthioFooty.

“It’s a big game against Kaizer Chiefs. I’m really happy to score in such a big game.

“I will continue working hard to get into the line-up, the decision is up to the coach, so I have to respect that. I’ll try my best to do something better each time I play.”

Nassir also explained that Downs have helped him a lot since his arrival in South Africa.

“I thought it would be very tough for me since I don’t know the language but the people have been helping me out though,” he added.

“It has eased a lot of things that I thought would be hard.”
