King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and King Ndamase Ndamase are expected to travel to Zimbabwe for high-level discussions with Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of efforts to address growing concerns around xenophobia and strengthen regional cooperation.

The planned visit comes amid ongoing discussions about migration and relations between South Africa and its neighbouring countries.
Proposal for a regional summit
As part of their diplomatic engagement, the two monarchs have proposed hosting a Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Minority Summit in Victoria Falls.
The summit aims to shift the conversation around migration, encouraging leaders to view it not as a threat but as a strategic driver of regional investment and economic development. The proposal also seeks to place migration discussions within the broader framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which promotes greater trade and economic integration across the continent.

Dirco confirms the request
South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation has confirmed that it received the formal diplomatic request regarding the visit.
The department said the proposed trip would be processed in line with established official diplomatic protocols.
The Sowetan reported that International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri has confirmed knowledge of the planned trip to Zimbabwe by the monarchs.
“(Dirco) wishes to confirm that it is duly apprised of the correspondence received from, and the expressed intention of the traditional leadership to undertake a visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe. In keeping with the established protocols governing such engagements, the department affirms that it will engage the traditional leadership through the appropriate channels and in a manner consistent with the government’s engagements with stakeholders,” said Chrispin.
Promoting regional unity
The planned meeting is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation between South Africa and Zimbabwe while encouraging dialogue on issues affecting communities across the region.
The initiative also highlights the role traditional leaders can play in promoting peace, unity and collaboration beyond national borders, particularly at a time when migration and xenophobia remain sensitive topics in Southern Africa.
