David Moyo keen to make instant impact in the EFL

Zimbabwe international forward David Moyo is keen to make an immediate impact at his new club Barrow AFC in England’s EFL League Two.

Moyo penned a one-year contract with the club after a mutual agreement to part ways with Hamilton Academical in Scotland, where he spent the last two seasons.

At Hamilton Academical, the 27-year-old scored nine goals in 38 appearances, a feat that was not enough for him to retain his place at the club.

However, the lanky striker who has become a regular in the Zimbabwe national team is eager to leave an indelible mark in the industrial town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

“I’m delighted that I am now a Barrow AFC player,” Moyo said.

“It’s a new move, which means new targets, but the instant task is to win a place in the first team and score as many goals as I can.

“The previous team gave me an opportunity, and I did my best, but as a player, you will always have to move on in search of a new challenge.

“ My hope is to help the team in fulfilling their objectives even before my personal targets. There is enough quality to get out of the team, and I want to come in and help in the process of getting the job done.”

Moyo impressed Barrow AFC coach Pete Wild during their pre-season training before the latter agreed for him to put pen to paper.

Away from club football, the former Northampton Town gunslinger has become a key member of the Zimbabwe national team, having already been capped five times since his debut against Algeria in November 2020.

Moyo managed to make the grade into Norman Mapeza’s squad that took part in the Africa Cup of Nations finals that were staged in Cameroon in January.

The ex-Chippa coach, Mapeza, even appraised Moyo together with Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura on how fast they managed to fit in the Warriors set-up.
