Orlando Pirates forgotten star to miss pre-season due to injury

Orlando Pirates midfielder Kabelo Dlamini could miss a significant portion of the club’s pre-season preparations as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury.

The 30-year-old last featured for the Buccaneers in November before suffering an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

According to Soccer Laduma, Dlamini is in the final stages of his rehabilitation but is expected to miss the club’s pre-season training camp.

“He’s doing much better now. Everything is progressing well, and if there are no setbacks, the expectation is that he should be back in about two to three weeks,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

Orlando Pirates are set to travel to Europe in the coming days for their pre-season tour ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Regarding Dlamini’s future, Soccer Laduma also reported that the midfielder’s contract could be extended by a further two years.

While that remains a possibility, his long injury layoff raises questions over the likelihood of a new deal. Dlamini managed only a handful of appearances last season before being sidelined, and it remains to be seen where he fits into new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s plans.

Orlando Pirates have already made seven new signings

With Pirates set to compete in the CAF Champions League alongside domestic competitions, the club could value Dlamini’s experience and squad depth. However, he is unlikely to be a regular starter if he remains at the club.

It remains to be seen if Dlamini will sign a new deal and get gametime.

Should Dlamini leave Pirates?
