Malesela reveals target set for them by Royal AM boss

Royal AM co-coach Dan Malesela has revealed the target given to the technical team by the club’s president Shauwn Mkhize.

The KZN outfit will participate in the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time after finishing third last season.

Malelsela has built a reputation as one of the country’s top coaches. His previous clubs have done well in challenging for trophies, having won the Nedbank Cup with TS Galaxy. He also led Gallants to the final of last season’s edition of the same cup.

He has vowed that he will undoubtedly win a trophy with Royal AM this season, adding that the president’s target was a little too modest.

“The President said top eight, but she was just modest. We can achieve anything. For me, I say go with a flow and see, go with a positive mindset, we must challenge, and every season we must win something,” he said.

He described the kind of team they intend to build with his co-coach Khabo Zondo at ‘Thwihli Thwahla’.
“We want to be a difficult team to play against and break down. A team that doesn’t concede will never lose a game.”

The former Marumo Gallants coach admits it will be a hectic schedule for them but has cited reservations about rotating the squad. He outlined how they intend to manage their squad as they chase a top-eight finish and success on the continent.

“Look, we can do rotation, but we won’t go deep into it. You want this group to gel well together. Others will join in as we make subs and as we go with matches, because if we change the whole system, some of the players haven’t played together. They are not used to each other, so we just need to make those two or three changes, and we go on that way,” he told the media.
