Ex-Pirates star Nyatama explains role at Swallows

Veteran midfielder Musa Nyatama, who set in the dugout in absence of Dylan Kerr when Swallows played Orlando Pirates has explained his new role at the club.

Nyatama played last season but as Swallows were preparing for the new season, he started assisting coach Kerr.

On Saturday as they lost 1-0 courtesy of an Bienvenu Eva Nga goal, Nyatama was the man in charge.

“In terms of personnel, we are limited so I’m also helping out the coach, I’m still playing but also helping on the other side. You must remember even in the last game I was on the bench helping out giving the guys instructions so I’m still both sides, coaching as well as playing,” Nyatama told the media.

The Malta born coach has applied for his visa renewal after the Birds extended his contract. It remains unclear when the visa will be issued.

According to the law, the 52-year-old mentor cannot sit on the bench until the visa is finalized.

Nyatama is of the view that the game would have turned out different had they taken their chances.

“I feel like especially in the second half we could have at least scored two goals with [Tshediso] Patjie and [Lindokuhle] Mtshali shot, it was a good save from Richard Ofori,” he added.

The Dobsonville-based side endured difficult times in the DStv Premiership last season which saw them survive relegation through promotion/relegation playoffs.

The 2019/20 National First Division Champions only mananged four victories, drew 14 and lost in 12 outings in the last campaign.
