According to EWN, Maimane says a group of three armed gunmen entered the bar last night and ‘demanded that all patrons lie on the ground and started robbing them one by one.’

The One SA leader says he is still trying to come to terms with this traumatic experience, adding that this robbery was a ‘reminder of the high levels of crime in the country.’

He said that fortunately, private security companies and the police arrived promptly on the scene.

Maimane who was hosting his brother-in-law at the time, has described the incident as something out of a movie, saying it still feels surreal.

“People who were in the restaurant were equally traumatised and so everyone had to give statements. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Some of the items were left on the side of the road as the chase went through,” says Maimane.

Maimane concluded by expressing that while he was glad no one was hurt, this traumatic experience was a stark reminder of the high levels of violent crime in the country and the need for urgent action to address it.
