Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag has explained why he added Benni McCarthy to his first-team coaching staff at the Premier League giants.
United confirmed McCarthy’s arrival as first-team coach over the weekend, in new that sent shockwaves through the South African football fraternity, with many expressing their delight for the former AmaZulu and Cape Town City coach.
McCarthy will be working with the club’s strikers as part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff and the Dutchman insisted he was looking for a different dimension in his backroom staff.
“There was still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill,” he told MUTV.
“Someone with a different voice and Benni is that one.
“He has experience as a manager. He was a coach in the professional level and he was a former striker, a really successful striker as well.”

“He will focus on the positioning and attacking,” he added
“I’m not saying only the strikers, but also the integration from the full-backs and midfielders. Our way of play has to be dynamic.”
