Benni McCarthy has spoken for the first time since he was announced as Manchester United first-team coach.
The South African UEFA A license holder joined the Premier League giants and will “will specialise in coaching attacking plays and positioning”, the club confirmed on Saturday.
McCarthy has broken his silence on the new role, speaking pitch-side to Manchester United TV ahead of Sunday’s friendly match against Rayo Vallecano.
“There’s no bigger stage than this. To be here is a privilege,” he said, as per English journalist Tom McDermott.
“Hopefully we see a rejuvenated United and one that can challenge for getting into the Champions League.”
McCarthy was added to new Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag’s coaching staff after leaving his role at AmaZulu earlier in the year.
