Betway Premiership giants Sundowns announced the transfer on social media on Tuesday morning, welcoming the 24-year-old to Chloorkop with a message to supporters.
“Yellow Nation, Antonio Van Wyk joins the African Champions ready to write his own chapter in yellow and blue,” the club announced. “Masandawana, make him feel at home.”
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STRENGTHEN ATTACK
The announcement follows earlier reports that The Brazilians had reached an agreement with Austrian side SV Ried and had already settled personal terms with the player.
Van Wyk returns to South African football after spending time in Austria with SV Ried, where he helped the club secure promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. Last season he scored three goals and made three assists as the club finished in eighth place.
Before his move abroad, the Belhar-born winger made his name at Stellenbosch FC. He progressed through the Ubuntu Football Academy before becoming a regular in the Betway Premiership under Steve Barker and played an important role in Stellenbosch FC’s rise, including their triumph in the 2023 Carling Knockout.
The speedy attacker scored six goals and made 11 assists in 77 appearances for Stellenbosch FC. He also earned recognition through South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squads before sealing his overseas move in 2024.
RETURN HOME COMPLETE
Sundowns had been linked with Van Wyk for several months. The club previously attempted to bring him to Chloorkop during the January transfer window.
Negotiations eventually progressed, with the clubs reaching an agreement before the move was finalised.
His arrival adds further quality and depth to an already formidable attacking department. Sundowns will prepare for another campaign challenging for domestic honours and continental success.
With the transfer now complete, attention will turn to how quickly Van Wyk settles into Miguel Cardoso’s plans. Can he can establish himself in one of the most competitive squads in South African football?
