Chiefs Captain For 2022/23 Confirmed?

Kaizer Chiefs captain for the 2022/23 season has seemingly been confirmed after Itumeleng Khune represented the club at the DStv Premiership launch even on Thursday.

Last season, Itumeleng Khune was the club’s first choice captain, despite limited game-time with Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Samir Nurkovic and Bernard Parker being his replacements.

However, the latter three were all released by the club, while Khune has only played a bit-part role at Naturena last campaign.

For now, though, it seems as Khune will remain the club’s captain, as he represented Amakhosi during SuperSport TV’s launch of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, which had all coaches and captains of the 16 Premiership teams present.

Khune, 35, has been with the club since 2004, making over 300 appearances for the Glamour Boys. However, in 2021/22 Khune only made one appearance for the club.

“Obviously every season, it’s different but again a lot is expected from us,” he said.

“We know that we have to deliver trophies, it hasn’t been happening the past seven years and that’s not the Chiefs culture.

“Now, the way we are training, you can see that we really mean business this coming season.”

It remains to be seen who will be Khune’s vice-captains, as the club are yet confirm the players who will wear the armband this campaign.
