The murder case involving seven men accused of killing rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane is set to continue in the High Court in Durban on Thursday, 11 June.

The court appearance will mark the first time all seven accused appear together since the extradition of brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande from eSwatini.

The two brothers were recently returned to South Africa and are expected to join their co-accused, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande, in the dock.

Range of charges

According to the SABC, the accused face a range of serious charges, including double murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and other offences linked to the high-profile killings.

Forbes, one of South Africa’s most celebrated hip-hop artists, and his longtime friend and business associate Motsoane were shot and killed outside a popular restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on 10 February 2023.

The brazen attack, captured on surveillance footage and widely shared on social media, sent shockwaves across the country and prompted a major police investigation.

Authorities have previously described the killings as a coordinated hit, with investigators alleging that the accused played various roles in the planning and execution of the murders.

The extradition of Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande was regarded as a significant breakthrough in the case after South African authorities worked with their counterparts in eSwatini to secure their return.

Pre-trial matters

Thursday’s proceedings are expected to focus on pre-trial matters as the State continues to build its case against the accused.

The matter remains one of South Africa’s most closely watched criminal cases, with fans, family members and the broader public continuing to seek justice for Forbes and Motsoane more than three years after their deaths.

All seven accused remain before the court as legal proceedings continue.
