Official: CAF Announce WAFCON Team Of The Tournament

CAF have announced the official Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament, but there was only space for four Banyana Banyana players.

The South African women’s national team arrived back in Mzansi to a heroes welcome at OR Tambo on Tuesday morning after bringing their first ever WAFCON trophy home.

Banyana beat Morocco 2-1 in the final, thanks to brace by Hildah Magaia, and were the only team to win all their six games, scoring 10 goals and only conceding three.

However, Andile Dlamini and Bambanani Mbane were the only two defending players it into the official CAF Best XI, with Noko Matlou somewhat surprisingly being overlooked.

Refiloe Jane was selected in midfielder, while Jermaine Seoposenwe was picked in the forward line. Overall the team consists of four Banyana players, three from Morocco and two from Nigeria and Zambia each.
