Known for his humour, creativity and unapologetic personality, Lasizwe recently shared a message with his followers about the importance of being true to oneself on social media. His words resonated with many users who often feel pressured to present a perfect version of their lives online.

Choosing authenticity over perfection

Social media platforms have become spaces where people share highlights of their lives, from career achievements and travel adventures to personal milestones. While these moments can be inspiring, they can also create unrealistic expectations and encourage comparison.

Lasizwe reminded his followers that authenticity is far more valuable than trying to fit into a mould created by others. By embracing who they truly are, people can build genuine connections and find greater confidence in expressing themselves.

His message encouraged users to focus less on external validation and more on staying true to their values, interests and personalities.

The pressure to fit in

For many social media users, the desire to gain likes, followers and approval can sometimes lead to feelings of insecurity. Trends come and go, and the pressure to keep up with them can be overwhelming.

Lasizwe’s advice highlights an important reality: social media should not require people to change who they are. Instead, it can be a platform for creativity, self-expression and meaningful engagement.

By showing up as their authentic selves, individuals may feel less burdened by the need to constantly seek acceptance from others.

Taking to his Instagram story, Lasizwe said: “Dear gays, you do not need to perform masculinity, nonchalance, sexiness, or ‘coolness’ 24/7. If you want to sing loudly on your stories, be goofy, be excited, be soft, be expressive…do it. It’s your platform.

“The saddest thing about social media is watching people build entire personalities around being desirable instead of being themselves.
And then they wonder why they’re lonely. People can only fall in love with the version of you that you show them. If you’re constantly selling a character, eventually someone will meet the real you and feel like they were sold something else. Stop performing. Start existing. The right people aren’t looking for your image. They’re looking for you,” said Lasizwe.

Many of Lasizwe’s followers welcomed his words, praising him for encouraging self-acceptance and confidence. Fans noted that his willingness to be himself has played a major role in his success and has inspired others to do the same.

Throughout his career, Lasizwe has built a reputation for authenticity, often sharing both the highs and lows of his journey with his audience. This openness has helped him connect with supporters on a deeper level.
