Dr Kaizer Motaung gets rousing welcome in Naturena

Dr Kaizer Motaung received a rousing welcome in Naturena on Monday after being honoured by the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a doctorate degree.

Amakhosi staff, coaches and players gathered at the Village to welcome the Executive Chairman and Founder.

Kaizer Chiefs staff, coaches and players gathered at the Village to welcome the Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, as he arrived after being honoured by UCT with a doctorate. There were cheers and singing as they all made a guard of honour.

Dr Motaung was honoured by UCT at a graduation ceremony in the Mother City this past Friday.

The UCT, one of the world’s leading tertiary institutions, bestowed the title of Doctor Of Social Science Honoris Causa upon the Chiefs Chairman. He was accompanied at the event by his family members. 

 The University honoured the Glamour Boys Chairman for his contribution to football and social development in the country.

“Kaizer Chiefs would like to congratulate the Chairman for the prestigious title that has been awarded to him, as well as acknowledge his hard work in helping grow the game of football in South Africa and ensuring the upliftment over the past five decades of marginalised and disadvantaged footballers,” reads the club’s statement.

“The Chairman has also been at the forefront of building Kaizer Chiefs into a leading global football club and brand. 

“With the doctorate that has been bestowed on him by UCT, the Chiefs Chairman has now earned the title of Doctor Kaizer Motaung.”

Over the weekend, the Soweto giants Reserve side were crowned Champions of the 2022 DStv Diski Shield after a 2-0 win over Stellebosch FC Reserves at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal.

“We did it for Dr Kaizer Motaung, who received his honorary doctorate on Friday from UCT, and we hope these performances will rub off on the senior team so our supporters can have something to smile about this coming season,” said coach Vela Khumalo in a post-match interview.
