Orlando Pirates star Bandile Shandu has pinpointed what his team needs to improve on in the upcoming season to reclaim their long-lost glory.
The once dominant Bucs have since vanished as Mamelodi Sundowns have proved to be the club to beat in the past seasons, clinching the DStv Premiership five times in a row.
“It’s definitely converting. In all games we played, we created many chances, but we just didn’t convert. It’s just a matter of putting it in the back of the net. That’s what we need to improve. Every chance we get needs [us] to be clinical,” Shandu told the media on the sidelines of the Adidas kit launch.
“Pirates has always been strong, it’s a big club in Africa. We always want to win stuff [trophies], our supporters always want to win stuff. We looking very strong, and we aim to contest in every trophy that we can.”
“I want to improve, I want to assist more, help my teammates more, and I want to score goals. I won’t do so without them. Even last season, all my goals and contributions it’s because of them. They helped me to settle in, it just shows how good we are and the group we are. There is brotherhood.”
The former Maritzburg United defender further revealed how the new coach Jose Riveiro has helped the squad since his appointment.
“He’s great. We are all happy and willing to improve from last season. The preparations have been going on very well. Because of how we ended the season, psychologically, he’s brought in the confidence that was a bit down. He pushed us up; that’s why we got to hit up and get running, and we are very optimistic about the season.”
With the new signing the Soweto giants made during the transfer window, they are aiming to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns.
