Boitumelo Radiopane says he is excited to link up with Shaun Bartlett at Cape Town Spurs and also thanked Mandla Ncikazi for the role he played in his development so far.

‘Radioman’, as he is affectionally known, scored 24 goals in the previous campaign of DStv Diski Challenge, which earned him the golden boot as the top goalscorer and he was also named DDC Player of the Season.

The 21-year-old was promoted to Orlando Pirates’ first team but was immediately loaned out to the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town Spurs.

“I would like to thank my club (Orlando Pirates) for paying special attention to my growth and development as a player,” Radiopane told Bafana’s media team.

“Coach Mandla Ncikazi was the one who promoted me into the Reserve League. I’ve done well there and now they have presented me with another opportunity to grow at Cape Town Spurs in the NFD.

“Coach Shaun is one of the top strikers the country has ever produced and I’ve looked up to him ever since I was young. Now I’ll be learning from him first hand and I can’t wait for that experience.”

Radiopane’s fine form hasn’t gone unnoticed at national team level either as he is part of the COSAFA Cup squad, put together by Helman Mkhalele, and fancies his chances to shine at the tournament.

“I am just grateful to be here and my focus now is to do well for the nation in this tournament, starting with the Mozambique game,” he added.

“I take my opportunities very seriously, and you can bet that, should I be given the nod to play; I’m going to make full use of it.

“We are the defending champions and it is upon us to ensure that we emulate last year’s Bafana Bafana squad by winning and defending this title.”

South Africa will take on Mozambique in the COSAFA Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, 13 July at 17:00.
