South Africa’s favourite on-air personality Anele Mdoda is making her return to radio after a two months break from her 947 breakfast show, Anele, and The Club.

Mdoda who announced her sudden hiatus from the station in April with plans to seek to explore new and emerging broadcasting and entertainment trends and to interrogate global best practices that will invigorate her show returns on air with an anticipated new radio-style and approach on Monday the 7th of July. She was also announced to have signed a long-term contract with Primedia ahead of her return in July.

The media personality has been enjoying a 2 month long paid holiday abroad on a radio hiatus and embarking on global masterclasses around the US and UK to help season her as a broadcaster and reimagine her show ‘Anele And The Club’ is definitely merging work and play perfectly. In between that, Anele and her son Alakhe became Social Media’s favourite mom and son with Mzansi reacting to their vacation content and commending Anele’s parenting style.

Mdoda will take back the reigns from actress and seasoned broadcaster Thando Thabethe who has been taking care of business on the breakfast slot since April. Thando will return to 947’s drivetime slot, 947 With Thando where Zweli Mbele has been handling business. Zweli will also be returning to his assigned show, 947 Nights.

Anele Mdoda has also signed a 5-year contract with Primedia Broadcasting, a massive feat for a South African media personality in an industry where employees are hired on a short-term freelance basis and sometimes on pro-rated contracts. Entertainment commentator Phil announced this on Twitter, “Anele signs historic deal. 947 has announced that Anele Mdoda has signed a five-year contract with Primedia Broadcasting. Huge achievement given how the industry is littered with short-term contracts. Anele returns from her break on July 1st.”

The radio broadcaster has been with the station for two decades and continues to speak well of how it is home for her. She shared in a media statement, “2022 is my 20th anniversary as a broadcaster. I have been with the company for 14 years, and Primedia formed part of my personal and professional growth. They are like family to me,” she said in a press statement.”

Primedia Broadcasting’s chairman, Phumzile Langeni, said they were privileged to have their CEO’s “clear and compelling vision” following this contract. “At Primedia, it is all about validating our people. When our people succeed, we succeed. There is much more that we need to still see from Anele,” she said.

The Primedia brand hosted a high-end dinner on Tuesday celebrating the return of Mdoda and in attendance were local media stars such as Somizi Mhlongo, Hulisani Ravele, new Primedia CEO Randal Abraham, and blogger Phil Mphela amongst many others.

Anele makes her anticipated return to radio on July 1st, and in the interim, Thando Thabethe is taking care of things on 947 Breakfast show, Anele and The Club.
