Reports emerging from Europe reveal that the Rangers FC and Bafana Bafana central defender has inspired scouts in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy to follow his progress in Scotland.

The 22-year-old from Durban has enjoyed a storming start in Glasgow since joining from Philadephia Union in July.

BAFANA BAFANA STAR OLWETHU MAKHANYA MAKES INSTANT IMPACT IN EUROPE

According to TEAMTalk, as reported by SoccerBeat, Makhanya is being monitored across Europe’s top five leagues.

“Olwethu Makhanya has barely settled at Rangers, but TEAMtalk understands the young defender is already drawing attention from clubs across Europe’s top five leagues,” the report said.

“Clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are understood to be keeping tabs on Makhanya, with the expectation that Rangers would face enquiries next summer should he continue on his present path,” the outlet reported.

Makhanya has started all 6 of his league appearances, playing 540 minutes and helping his side keep 4 clean sheets, while earning an impressive 7.46 match rating.

He has completed 323 passes at an 85.2% accuracy rate. In a 1-0 win over St. Mirren, he recorded a 93% completion rate, completing 62 of 67 passes, while also making 5 of 7 progressive passes and 5 of 7 long balls.

Defensively, he won possession 27 times in his first 5 games, while recording 20 clearances, 4 blocks and 5 interceptions. His total number of clearances has since risen to 24.

He also won 4 of his first 5 tackles and completed 30 duels overall. The defender ranked third in the squad for aerial duels, winning 13 of 24. In possession, he ranked second in the squad for carries, while completing 4 dribbles and creating 4 goal-scoring chances.

Makhanya first emerged in the Marumo Gallants‘ reserve team before signing for Stellenbosch FC. He later moved to the USA to play his football for Philadelphia Union before moving to Rangers.
